Berowra FC – 2023 U8 to U11 Cobra Academy Program
At the July 2019 NSFA President’s Workshop, NSFA and Northern Tigers Technical Director Jason Eagar – supported by Football NSW Technical Director Warren Grieve – announced the implementation of the NSFA SAP League for the 2020 season. SAP refers to Skill Acquisition Phase, the stage of a young footballer’s development between the ages of 8 to 11.
The goal of the NSFA SAP League is to improve development opportunities for players and coaches within local football clubs, while also underpinning the Northern Tigers SAP and the NSFA Super League and Diamond League competitions.
Following the President’s Workshop, clubs were invited to apply for one of 12 licences to enter teams into the NSFA SAP League for the 2021 season. Berowra FC was selected as one of 12 NSFA clubs. Our selection underpins the hard work the club, coaching partner Kano (formerly T3), our local coaches and players have put in over the past few years. It is an exciting concept and will provide continual development for our junior players within the club.
Clubs will enter teams in the Under 8, Under 9, Under 10 and Under 11 age groups, with North Sydney, Lindfield and Northbridge entering two NSFA SAP teams per age group. All other clubs including Berowra FC will have one NSFA SAP team per age group, creating a 15-team league with 15 match days and two gala days.
Here we will outline our program for all 2023 SAP League teams from Under 8 to Under 11, benefits, the cost structure and answer any questions.
TRIALS
Trials for our SAL and Development (DEV) squad teams (under 8, 9, 10 and 11) are held over two sessions in November each year.
2 teams are selected in each age group being one SAL side (Skills Acquisition League) and one Development team.
The SAP League team will effectively be the top graded players in each age group with the DEV team being the 2nd tier.
Berowra FC – 2023 U8 to U11 SAL & Development Squad Program
Both the SAL & the development squad programs will be run as per the 2022 season. Teams will train twice weekly for 90 minutes per session. Both sessions will be coached by a Kano coach and assisted by a Berowra FC appointed Parent coach. Match day coaching will be provided by the Kano Coach for all SAL teams (& DEV teams when available) or the Berowra FC appointed coach. The program will run for approx 30 weeks commencing early February each year.
